Solo Travel
Solo travel has become a new passion for me. For someone who’s fiercely independent yet still lives at home, these trips gave me a taste of the best part of adulthood - complete freedom. Being a filmmaker, I documented every day of my trip - posting Instagram stories, capturing footage for vlogs. I hoped that my mini stories would help make solo travel appear less intimidating for the sceptics in my life. One of my friends once asked, “How can you enjoy travelling alone? I’d feel anxious.”
My answer?
You’re never truly alone. You are your own best company. Happiness isn’t something others create for you - you create it for yourself. And that’s so easy to find when you’re free to roam.
Small Trip to Salisbury
This is where my love for solo travel first took root. In 2023, I planned a trip to Japan to reconnect with my extended family - a journey that felt both exciting and daunting. Before flying halfway across the world, I decided to test the waters with a quiet weekend in Salisbury just a train ride away. It was a small trip, but it marked the start of something much bigger.

Travelling to the Unknown with Journee
Imagine booking a solo trip without knowing where you’re going. No idea of the country, the hotel, or even what kind of activities you’ll be doing. Everything is planned for you by a service that keeps you in the dark until the moment you arrive at the airport. Sounds terrifying, right? Or maybe… exhilarating?
When I first told my friends and family about this, their reactions ranged from nervous laughter to awe. “Oh, I could never do that!” my work colleagues exclaimed. My dad and brother joked that I could end up in Syria or Ukraine and never return. (Spoiler: I did not end up in either of those countries.)
What I did end up with was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
I’d always loved the idea of travelling alone but had no clue where to start. Planning a trip - choosing flights, accommodation, and building an itinerary felt like a chore. That’s when I found Journee, a travel service that offers solo trips with a twist - the destination remains a secret until departure day. I loved the concept.
The process was simple: I filled in a questionnaire asking questions about what I wanted from my trip - scenic views, rich history, and incredible food, etc. 24 hours later, I received a proposal with a vague outline, flight dates, and the cost. I accepted and paid the deposit.
For the next eight weeks, I received cryptic clues about my mystery destination via WhatsApp. I documented everything, posting the clues online and filming my friends and family trying (and failing) to guess.
I ended up in Dubrovnik and Mostar.

30 Days in Japan 2024
I came back from my 30-day Japan trip with over 1,600 photos and videos. I split them into 11 episodes based on the regions I visited and how dense each experience felt. Each episode offers a window into a different pocket of Japan - some familiar, others totally unexpected.
Being half Japanese gave me a unique lens for this trip. I was able to include small cultural details and customs that most Western creators might overlook - things I grew up hearing about or instinctively understood.
I hope this series gives you a glimpse of Japan that’s a little more offbeat, a little more personal - and inspires you to film your own version, family dinners and all.
